Sacristan is a directory you read. It has no accounts, no tracking cookies and no advertising. This page says what is recorded anyway and why.

What we collect

• Server logs. Like every website, the server records the address of each request, the page asked for, the time, the browser type and the referring page. Logs are used to keep the site running and to find abuse, and are deleted after 30 days.
• Analytics. Our server counts each page view (the page, the country the request came from, the site that linked to it, and whether the visitor was a crawler); nothing that identifies you is stored. A small script also counts how often a few buttons and links are shown and clicked (the search box, "near me", "directions", "report a mistake"), again as totals only. Cloudflare Web Analytics, which we may enable, works the same way: no cookies, no fingerprinting, no profile.
• Your location, only if you ask. "Near me" asks your browser for your position and sends it to our server once, to list the churches around it. It is not stored beyond the server log of that request, and you can use the site without it by typing a place.
• Corrections you send. The "report a mistake" form stores your message, the page it concerns and, only if you type it, your email, so we can check the report and answer you. Nothing else about you is recorded with it.
• Email. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to act on it.

What we do not do

• No advertising, no ad networks, no selling or sharing of data.
• No accounts and no cookies. Your browser may keep a small local preference (for example the last place you searched); it never leaves your device.
• No personal data about clergy beyond what a parish publishes as its public contact.

Third parties

Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and photographs from Wikimedia Commons; those servers see the request for the file, as with any image on the web. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf. Map links open Google Maps, Apple Maps or OpenStreetMap in a new tab under their own terms.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use. Given the above, the answer is usually "a log line for a few weeks", but ask anyway: hello@sacristan.io. The site is operated by Bruno Montibeller.

If we add accounts or contributions, this page will change first and say so at the top.
